Postiveness


Positiveness is a noun with several different meanings:
  1. The quality or state of being encouraging and predicting a successful result

  2. The quality or state of certainty

  3. The quality or state of being beyond reason deniability

  4. The quality of being an amount greater than zero

  5. The character of the positive electric pole
The famous Irish writer, Jonathan Swift (1667 to 1745) wrote:
"Positiveness is a good quality for preachers and speakers because, whoever shares his thoughts with the public will convince them as he himself appears convinced."
Another Irish writer, Laurence Sterne (1713 to 1768) wrote:
"Positiveness is an absurd foible. If you are in the right, it lessens your triumph; if in the wrong, it adds shame to your defeat."
